how to coordinate the injection into the two LHC rings. If one completes first the injection into one of the two rings before starting the injection into the second ring the emittance and intensity of the first beam in Ring-1 will deteriorate during that time, resulting in two beams with slightly different quality (-> background problems in the experiments).
Therefore it might be advantageous to switch during the injection process from one ring to the other. The implications of such an injection scenario must be carefully analyzed (e.g.: interlock procedures, adjustment of the beam separation at the IP's and effect of orbit corrections in the common part of the machine on the other beam).
