Measurements/Beam Instrumentation
- Synchronised measurement
acquisition as part of scans, feedback, or at
given point in the cycle. Slow & BST timing triggered acquisition. Integration
in measurement procedures - scans and stuff
- Concentration. Have to pull together distributed measurements into logical
whole (e.g. orbit) and re-publish result. [Virtual device perhaps, to be
done
in the business layer]
- Feed logging system
- Persist measurements. Archiving, references etc.
Access for post-mortem, post-run analysis, web access etc. Standard mechanism required
- Feed fixed displays
- Configure: bunch, beam,
- Adjust instrument settings - gains, thresholds, slit sizes,
in/out, etc. [all changes recorded]
- Subscribe: variable rates
- Systematic PM type buffering in ramp?
- Video signals?
- Analyse and/or process
Measure (& correct if necessary):
- Beam Position Monitors: Orbit and trajectory - many modes (first turn, closed orbit, transverse
injection oscillations,
1000 turns etc. see Orbit)
- Tune: Q-meter, various modes,
- Chromaticity - via change RF frequency
- Collective effects
- Dynamic aperture - control of the kickers
- Energy
- RF feedback response (longitudinal and transverse)
- Beam Loss Monitors
- Beam Current Transformer (IBMS)
- Beam Synchronous Timing
- Beam Profiles measurement
- Screens: acquisition, display, control -in/out etc. interlocks with
respect to beam condition etc.
- Longitudinal distribution, population of abort gap.
- Transverse dampers: want 40 mega-samples over X turns
- Beta beating

timing, system specific applications
